2013 Diocesan celebration of the Rite of Election of Catechumens and of the Call to Continuing Conversion of Candidates. This combined Rite is for the catechumens (non-baptized adults) who are preparing for Baptism, Confirmation and holy Communion and for the candidates (uncatechized adults) who are already baptized and are preparing for Confirmation and holy Communion in the Catholic Church.
Any baptized adults who have already made their First Holy Communion and are preparing for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation may attend the Rite of Election and will be presented to the Bishop in a group by parish.
One person (either godparent or sponsor) may accompany the Catechumen/Candidate. Please decide in advance who will sit with the person. If the godparent or sponsor cannot attend the rite, someone else may stand in as a proxy.
During the diocesan celebration, the Pastor or the RCIA Director will process in with the Books of the Elect prior to the calling of names. Each Catechumen will be called by name and presented to the Bishop. After all the Catechumens are presented, the Bishop will sign each book.
Please arrive 45 minutes prior to the celebration. This will allow you ample time to check in, pick up your name tags and seating chart to find your reserved seating. The diocese will prepare a name tag for each catechumen whose name was submitted. Names of catechumens that have not been submitted to the Office of Worship may not participate in the Rite.
