Sunday Studies is an Adult Bible Study that meets on Sundays during the school year when Religious Education Classes are held, beginning September 2nd. We meet from 8:45 - 9:45am in the PAC. Although all adults and high school students who have finished RE are invited, this is a perfect time for parents of students who are attending RE to continue their own religious education through Bible study while their children are in class.
This year we will continue our study of the Book of Isaiah. God speaks through the prophet Isaiah. Of the 220 biblical scrolls found in the cache of ancient writings known as the Dead Sea Scrolls, the 2,100-year old Isaiah Scroll is the only one that is complete. In fact, 21 copies of the scroll were found in Qumran. Thus, its importance to the people who left the scrolls is firmly established. Major themes of the Book include: 1) The majesty and holiness of God; 2) God’s concern for social justice and its intimate connection with holiness; and 3) Isaiah’s decrees to the royal court in Jerusalem concerning God’s political directives for the Jewish people. The Book almost reads like the current daily paper. Many of the countries and cities mentioned are in the news every day as the conflicts in the Middle East unfold.
Classes are informal with time to discuss issues. You do not have to be a Biblical scholar to attend. We look forward to welcoming you into this informal study of Isaiah. For more information, call Bob or Linda Stipanovic at 823-5670.
